EY - A Painting collaboration of Simona Donosa and William Knaack
Simona Donosa and William Knaack developed a collaboration out of their shared interest in dystopian fantasies.
An essential part of the artistic exploration is the handling of destruction.
In EY's first series, "Volume 1," post-apocalyptic landscapes were created from 2018 to 2019.
"And so surfaces, colors, figuratives became social processes of negotiation that countered the pathos of the original theme with a completely different design of future reference in the process of painting itself. In this way, the sorrowful demise of the world could transform itself from the epitome of a pathetic flight from the world and self-centeredness to a vehicle of engagement, to a vehicle of fruitful engagement with relationality." (From the text about the exhibition: "Two Last People - About Painting at the End of the World" by Jan Groos)
The name EY is derived from the Icelandic volcano Eyjafjallajökull, which paralyzed Europe's air traffic in smoking opacity during its last eruption in 2010 and briefly de-civilized the airspace.
